Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Yes absolutely. We love bespoke commissions. Email Joska on info@joska.studio and tell him what you’re thinking, and he’ll let you know if he can make it happen.

  • Yes we do. We offer a 15% designer discount.

  • Joska hand makes all the mirrors in his Christchurch studio. The silver backed mirrors are cut to shape and their edges polished, before being attached to a waterproof backing.

Joska then shapes the brass frames to fit the mirror. At this stage he may polish or brush the brass, use special processes to develop an aged patina, or send the frames to be specially coated. We apply a light wax coating to the brass keep a living finish which develop a natural patina over time.

The frames are fixed to the backing, and any extras like demisters or back lighting are added before the mirrors are carefully cleaned and packed.

All Joska products are hand made to order and have the qualities of small scale production.

  • Usually there is a four week lead time, not including shipping. If you are working to a specific date let us know and we will do our best to help.

  • Either by direct website purchase from our store or we can quote on custom orders. We invoice you for a 50% deposit to get the job going, and the remaining 50% is to be paid when your mirror is delivered.

  • Yes you can. We edge seal all our mirrors to prevent corrosion. But in particularly damp environments that aren’t well ventilated, even well sealed mirrors can develop corrosion over time, especially around the edges.

If your mirror develops corrosion within two years of purchase, we’ll replace your glass at no extra cost. If it happens after two years we offer a reglaze service at $XXX plus the cost of shipping.

If you’d like to get your mirror reglazed, email info@joska.studio and we’ll send you a box, so you can ship your mirror back safely.

  • Our raw brass has a machine brushed appearance with a light wax finish applied, allowing natural oxidation to take place. When you receive your brass piece it will have a bright surface finish. Raw brass will oxidize beautifully and evenly over time (allow 6 months to 2 years) creating a beautiful, aged appearance. Un-lacquered or raw brass is brass that is purposefully left un-sealed to allow for natural oxidation to take place. As the metal ages, it darkens and develops that distinct patina and beautiful character. When you receive your raw brass piece it is important not to touch the brass surface without gloves to minimize any tarnishing or fingerprints appearing on the surface over time.

    Cleaning Raw Brass
Dust with a dry, soft lint-free cloth with a diluted solution of mild detergent to remove dust or salt. Always wear gloves when handling raw brass as any contact with skin will leave a mark and tarnish within weeks.

    Brasso and Polishing at Home
Please be aware that the use of Brasso on natural brass may remove the brushed finish, and will turn the finish to a high-gloss surface. We only recommend Brasso for heavy cleaning or polishing, and the use of Brasso is not necessary unless you wish to alter the appearance of the brass surface. If you want to rejuvenate the bright brushed look 000 grey synthetic steel wool pads can be used to rub carefully around the frame and polish.

    Patina Brass

Our patinated brass is a hand applied finish on natural brass which will darken the brass surface to have a layered textured appearance with colour tones from rich browns to blacks. This surface will not change over time and is a beautiful way to treat brass. The brass is also hand finished with a wax coating to help prevent fingerprints and stains.

  • Backlighting

Our mirrors can be backlit with a ring of warm white Led's in a diffuser channel that will halo off the wall behind the mirror.

We use a high CRI, water resistant, Warm white 3000K, LED strip. The mirror is float mounted 25mm from wall for the light to escape. The aluminium channel defuser ring is set back from the mirror edge around 100mm to minimise glare. An IP65 rated 24V LED driver is recessed into the mirror backing for ease of installation.

    Must be installed by electrician.

    Demisters

We can also fit demister heat pads to minimise fogging of the mirror.

We use NuKlear 230V demister pads in wattages between 30-90w depending on the size. These have a long tail that will reach a central point behind the mirror.

    Must be installed by electrician.
